Competitive Analysis

The competitive analysis was focused on three of the most well-known event discovery apps on the market: Fever, Eventbrite, and Meetup. I navigated each of these three apps along with their corresponding websites as if I were a new user, and took close note of my experience therein. Each of the three powerhouses had their advantages and disadvantages, which equipped me with the information necessary to perform a SWOT analysis before embarking on my own journey into the world of event finding.

Personas and User Stories

The personas Tim, Delilah, and Drew were crafted from a Google Forms survey, exploring local event attendance, current app usage, and diverse demographic details. This process revealed pain points and preferences across user types. By developing these personas, I was able to craft unique user stories, I enhancing design functionality, ensuring depth and avoiding superficiality. Without these personas, and by extension their companion user stories, the focus might have strayed towards aesthetics or feature overload, but instead, they kept us aligned with human-centric design principles.

Brand Development

During this phase, I developed a comprehensive mood board and refined style guide, including a color palette, typography, and app logo. The mood board was created to evoke feelings of friendship and community while achieving a sleek, modern look for both th ap an web design. This provided the client with a strong visual identity and gave me a solid aesthetic foundation for ongoing design work. The color palette, typography, and app logo were all designed through regular communication with my client, who provided me with further direction and critique in order to craft a unique identity for the project.

Usability Testing

The results of the usability test provided me with a good understanding about what aspects of my initial design were working, and which aspects were not. This information was crucial in order to develop an effective design that successfully satisfied the project brief and solved the problems that were identified at the onset of the design process.
